Goodbye faithful friend...

The sickening crunch of metal meeting metal filled my heart with dread.

I watched in slow motion horror as the bodywork concertinaed up towards me. There was a mule kick from the steering wheel and pedals. The seat belt tore into my chest. I awaited my coffin to fold up and crush my legs...
The moment never came. My friend took the blow. Little Micra had saved my life...
Shiny panels slowed the impact, crumpling as designed.
Things didn't look good.
From the front you could pretend that the damage was superficial...
...but it was soon clear that a large and important section of car was now...gone!
I felt like crap. Everything ached. It aggravated all my old injuries including my 'bionic' leg from my motorbike accident. Luckily, whiplash and a hurt shoulder complete with 'seat belt' stripe were my only major concerns.

The guy that hit me had run a red light. I'd survived, but little Micra had not been so lucky.
We shared fond memories, Micra and I. Exploring the world together, we loved nothing better than a razz through the lanes...

Hi, sorry about your incident and hope you are feeling fine, I just saw your second helicopter post which seems to be doing better than the car driving.
A few years sgo after a mishap, I landed in hospital for a week with 4 broken ribs and a broken collar bone.
Did you see my post of the model helicopter with camera in California. pic taken last january and posted Sept 13

Been there. I was also hit in the front drivers side. My sympathy to you. My neck has never recovered. I find it very hard to forgive the woman who breezed though the red light at high speed, hitting me so hard as to spin my blazer (much larger than what you were driving) nearly completely around. My only satisfaction being that her car was completely totaled.

Mate! Glad youve escaped in relatively good shape - been there and done that - hope the soreness is already easing - and that your insurer is swift to find in your favour.
But poor Micra! No other car can ferry your kayak so stylishly!

Geez, glad you are ok.
At least this one did not land on it's roof like the last car accident we shared!

What did the redlight runner look like? Smushed, I hope! Insured I hope too.

oh my god - this is terrifying... i only just got onto your blog cos you had something about changing the gearbox on a micra (mine is clunky) and i wanted to know wheter it was dangerous.
i can't believe your micra is dead. i love my micra and would be totally gutted if that happened to me... by the way, good on the micra for not crumpling more than it did.
hope you are not too bruised.

Hanna - Little Micra will be greatly missed. I was impressed at how it stood up to such an impact and will consider replacing it with another Micra.
Have you checked the adjustment of your clutch cable? It's a simple job and often is the cause of 'clunkiness'. If you need any help in diagnosis or 'how to fix' then don't hesitate to Email me. You can find my address on my profile here at blogger...

Elisa - We were VERY lucky that night in the lane. I would never have forgiven myself if you'd have got hurt...
